Relatively new to the private jet market, the Embraer Legacy 600 and Legacy 650 have proven to be solid contenders in the large cabin jet category. Embraer started producing the 600 in 2002, and the 650 came along in 2010. Both have the same cabin with seating for 13 passengers. The 650 has a longer range and upgraded avionics among a few other differences. Embraer is not currently manufacturing the 600 except on personal request.
A Few Differences to Consider
(We are ignoring the Legacy 600s before 2005 here, because they varied widely before that time.)
Layout
The majority of these aircraft have the same layout. However, a few have two divans in the aft privacy lounge where the standard layout has two chairs and one divan. Also, a rare few do not have the dining group but have a club section instead.

Forward Lavatory vs Storage Closet
The Legacy 600 and 650 have the option for an extra forward lavatory in the front cabin across from the Galley. Where some have the lavatory, others have a storage closet. This comes down to personal preference, but if you have the forward lavatory, your crew can use the front lav instead of walking through the cabin to use your aft VIP lavatory.
Dropped Aisle
From Legacy 600 serial number 14500960 onwards and on all of the 650s, there is the option to have a dropped aisle in the cabin. The dropped aisle provides an extra 2 inches of headroom which makes a difference for taller people. Most 650s have the dropped aisle.
WIFI
High Speed Internet is relatively easy to retrofit (though it can be costly), but it is really nice to buy a jet with it already installed.
Upgraded Entertainment System
From 2012 onwards, Embraer equipped their Legacy 650s with a new entertainment system. This new system includes a Blu-Ray player, an Ipod dock, full wireless internet, HDMI interface, touchscreen controls, and multi-media ports for audio and video.
Hardwood or Stone Floors
Some 650s were delivered from the factory with hardwood or stone floors in the galley and lavatory. A few 600s have had this option retrofitted during interior refurbishments. The upgraded floors add a subtle, sophisticated touch to the interior and are also easier to clean than carpet.
Popular Attributes for the Legacy 600 and 650
- Range: For the 600: 3100 nautical miles, roughly 7 ½ hours flight time. For the 650: 3800 nautical miles, roughly 9 – 9 ½ hours.
- Cabin Size: The Legacy 600 and 650 have very large cabins. When you walk on board, they feel big and spacious. The three cabin zones (front club, mid dining group, aft lounge) help add to the roomy feeling. The aircraft types these compete with typically only have 2 cabin zones.
- Baggage Hold: These aircraft have the largest baggage compartment of any private jet. The Legacy’s baggage hold is 286 cubic feet which is 26% larger than the G550 baggage hold, 46% bigger than the Global Express baggage hold, and twice as large as the Falcon 7x hold.
- Lie Flat Seats: A lot of aircraft have lie-flat seats, but the 600 and 650 actually have the space to lay them flat which makes a big difference on that 8 hour flight.
This is a basic snapshot of the Embraer Legacy 600 and Legacy 650. When buying an airplane, it is best to fully research the aircraft you are considering and discuss in-depth with your broker what your needs are.
