How A Flight Attendant Can Affect Your Aircraft Search

If you are in interested in purchasing a mid-size cabin jet or larger, a flight attendant is a factor to consider in your search. Having or not having a flight attendant is very personal as to how you will use your aircraft.

You may feel you do not need a flight attendant. If your galley has limited catering equipment and you do not intend to eat full meals on-board, the attendant may seem unnecessary to you. Or perhaps you enjoy the privacy of the aircraft and do not want someone you are unfamiliar with on the flight.

However, if your galley is equipped with an oven and other amenities that require more effort, self-catering will be more of a chore than you probably want. Odds are you do not want to be spending your flight time preparing multiple meals for your passengers.

If you decide to have a flight attendant, the important question is where they will sit on take-off and landing. In the mid-size and super mid-size aircraft (such as the Challenger 300 series, Challenger 604, Embraer Legacy series and Falcon 2000s), you either need a flight attendant seat that is most often located in the front of the aircraft or a belted lavatory. Otherwise, they will have to sit in one of the VIP chairs which affects the number of passengers you can take. In the ultra-long range aircraft, they most often have a crew rest area that removes the need to think about where your flight attendant will sit as they have a space reserved for them.

When you are searching for your aircraft to purchase, it is important to think about the logistics of having your flights meet your personal desires for comfort and ease, whether that is having a flight attendant or not, and then how to make room for them on your flights. This is one of many things to discuss with your broker during your aircraft search.
